If you don't have index cards, you can do this!
I was thinking about if you possibly don't have index cards on hand, how to alternatively handle the prompts preparation, so I came up with a couple different adjustments one could do in this case!
Using Dice
You can use standard 2d6 or any other type of dice that could work. All you would need is a piece of paper, writing a list with two columns; left side for prompts of what went wrong in a quest, and right side for those minor good details. Number them (if using 2d6, from 2-12). Roll for the left prompt first, then roll again for the right prompt!
Using Playing Cards
Another way is, if you got a pack of playing cards with you, separate the red cards from the black cards (and remove Jokers). Red cards would be the left side deck for all that went wrong in the quest, and the right deck for all the minor positive details. For shorter lists, remove two of the suits to cut the prompt in half (so, for example, cut out spades and hearts and only use clubs and diamonds, or vice versa, etc.) With a piece of paper, write down a two column list; left side for all that went wrong, right side for minor positive details. Beside them, put a card rank (and suit, if you're using all suits for longer lists). Just like with the index cards, draw from the left deck for the bad, and the right deck for the good.
And there you have it, two alternative methods you can use for the prompt draws if you do not have any index cards available (or prefer not to use them). I hope this helps! Thought to add this little guide, since I entered this into "Light in the Darkness" Jam. I hope this game can give you a good laugh and brighten your spirits!
